Fastest lap - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fastest lap - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Fastest lap
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

In motorsport, the fastest lap is the quickest lap run during a race. Some series, like A1 Grand Prix and the GP2 series, award bonus points to the driver/team with the fastest lap. In Formula One, where until 1960 drivers were awarded a point for setting fastest lap, Michael Schumacher holds the current record for the most fastest laps with 76.

In Grand Prix motorcycle racing, which includes the 80cc, 125cc, 250cc, 350cc, and 500cc/MotoGP classes, no point is awarded for the fastest lap. Giacomo Agostini holds the current record for the most fastest laps with 117. Valentino Rossi, who still actively races in MotoGP, is in fourth place with 77 fastest laps.

Fastest production car - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a history of the world's fastest mass produced, street-legal cars (as opposed to concept cars or modified cars).

The first automobile ever produced was the Benz Patent Motorwagen, built in 1885 and unveiled in 1886 by Karl Benz. Unique and consequently the fastest, it established a record speed of 16 km/h (10 mph). More than a century later, in September 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero TT registered the latest record, for a production car, of 412 km/h (256.18 mph).

It is of note that the base model of many of the vehicles listed is vastly lower in maximum speed than limited edition or very rare production models, which may in themselves not fall into the category of 'production car'
